Dogs sadly don’t live as long as humans do, but some are blessed with good long lives. Once a dog reaches his senior years, every birthday is a milestone worth celebrating.

Like one sweet rescue dog, who recently turned 23 — an incredible age in dog years — and got a very special birthday party to celebrate.

Bully, a Chihuahua, has had a good long life, but when he was 21, he had a major life change: his elderly owner could no longer care for him, and he was taken in by the senior dog rescue The Mr. Mo Project, according to The Dodo.

It can be difficult for a dog to find himself in new surroundings at such an old age. Bully — also known as Bobo — is a “super senior” in dog years: he’s now well past the life expectancy of Chihuahuas.

But after two years in the rescue, Bully has adjusted to his new home and has continued to thrive.

“Bully is feisty, naughty, sweet, independent, gentle, calm and he has an old man bark,” Chris Hughes, who runs the rescue, told The Dodo. “Even at his age, he likes to try to push around another one of our Chihuahuas.” Bully is now the rescue’s oldest resident — so when recently celebrated his incredible 23rd birthday, they made sure to celebrate in style.

According to a Facebook post, Bully was born on April 5, 1999. He is one of the few dogs still alive who has lived through two millenniums. He’s reached an age few dogs could dream of. While it’s an occasion worthy of a big splash, this old dog preferred a more low-key celebration.

“He doesn’t have too many teeth, so we got a soft biscuit and crumbled it up for him to enjoy,” Hughes said. “He really enjoys sleeping, so that’s the best gift to give him.”

Chris Hughes started the Mr. Mo Project with his wife Mariesa, and senior dogs have a very special place in their hearts. They were inspired to start the rescue after caring for a 12-year-old dog named Moses who had been surrendered for “being too old.”

The couple has reportedly spent over $55,000 turning their home into a sanctuary for senior dogs, all to ensure these often-overlooked senior pets have a safe, loving place to spent their twilight years.

“We both work full-time jobs outside of The Mr. Mo Project,” Chris told Insider. “This is not a job, this is a labor of love. It’s where all our money goes toward.”

Shelter homes are filled with numerous animals who are adopted every year. Many animals are easily adopted but for some animals, it takes a long time. They have to wait endlessly to get adopted.

For some animals, this wait never ends and days change into weeks, weeks changes into months and years. They continue to wonder when they will find a forever home.

But it does not mean that they should lose hope because every animal is special and all deserve to be happy in their forever home. At times, it is just luck and nothing else because all dogs are very sweet.

Here is the story of Ginger, the dog who had an abusive past which made her ‘medical, emotional, and behavioral weak, in a sense that she is unadoptable. But the staff at the shelter worked hard to address those issues and now she is adaptable.

In order to end the wait of the dog, the shelter has come with a way to help the dog find a house. They are sharing a heartbreaking photo of the dog that tells her whole story. The dog is a Labrador retriever mix and it is at Dogwood Animal Shelter located in Lake of the Ozarks in Osage Beach, Missouri.

She is a very good dog and she likes to play. She has been waiting for nearly 8 years for a forever home. Other dogs get adopted but she is waiting behind bars for the house.

The viral photo of the dog shows that she is very sad and outside her kennel is written some lines that tell her story. It reads that her name is Ginger and she has been waiting there for 7 years, 9 months, 2 weeks and 2 days. In it, she even promised to say that she is a good girl and she just needs a second chance. Even Mission-Driven which is a clothing brand, working for shelter pets, shared her image on their social media platform.

Her photo touched many hearts and it became viral. After some days, the shelter started receiving the adoption applications. One of the applicants was Beth from St Louis County.

She was looking for a companion after she suffered from PTSD symptoms and had feelings of anxiousness. She was looking for a dog and when she spotted Ginger on Ginger’s Petfinder page, she knew that she wanted to adopt her.

And finally, the long wait for Ginger was over and she was adopted by Beth. Beth actually felt that she had been rescued by Ginger. Both of them are happy together.

Dogs are to be cherished – not thrown out like garbage when they are sick or unwanted. It’s always shocking to see this level of disregard for animals — in this case literally throwing away his or her pet dog like trash into a dumpsite.

Looking helpless and vulnerable, the dog was obviously left to die in mounds of trash with its wounded hind leg wrapped in some kind of gauze.

Perhaps, the dog, which looked dirty, was waiting for someone to help her out of the horrible looking dumpsite.

Luck was on the dog’s side when she was spotted by a group of neighbours in the suburbs of the Peruvian capital of Lima.

The group saw a car stopping by a landfill near Villa farm in Chorros. The driver got off, and dumped something into the pile of trash.

Out of curiosity, the group went closer and discovered that it was a dog with a bandaged hind leg.

The dog was obviously scared and it took some cautious approach by the group to gain the dog’s trust by offering her some water and food.

Looking at the condition the dog was in, the group tried to comfort her without hurting her. Although they could not figure out why the owner took all the trouble to drive up to the dumpsite to abandon his pet, they were sure that the owner was in a hurry, perhaps not wanting to be spotted doing the cruel act.

They contacted a local animal rescue group as the group was not in a position to take her home.

The rescue group acted swiftly and saved the dog from the dumpster. As the dog was nursed back to health, a local online media, Caridad Perú, in splashing a story in its Facebook page about the “dumpster dog”, exhorted the community to help meet the dog’s medical bills and urged them to adopt the dog.

The heartless person who dumped her is still out there. It’s just unfathomable the cruelty that people can bring onto animals.

Having a pet at home means having the enormous responsibility of caring for the pet and protecting the animal that lives to shower its unbridled love to the owner.

Unfortunately, the reality is different. There are people who are not prepared to take care of a pet and abandon it in the worst circumstances without taking into account that there are multiple options open to them, instead of “dumping” the pet.

Fortunately, the dog which was rescued is now in a new home. Thanks to Caridad Perú for running the story which was shared on social media, leading to its adoption.

Let’s remind ourselves that there are always ways to help an animal in distress and together we can make a difference.

Spike is a 14-year-old English springer spaniel who has recently experienced two strokes

“We got Spike when he was 5 from a rescue (Dogs Trust) around a year after losing our old dog (also a rescue that my parents found abandoned as a puppy). Spike had several homes before us and we can’t understand how anyone could give him up, but we’re very glad he made his way to us,” Spike’s owner told Bored Panda.

The fact that the fluffy boy is no longer able to climb the stairs by himself is even more sad knowing that he used to sleep in his humans’ bed all the time. “He has always slept on the bed upstairs, so when the stairs became too dangerous for him it was an immediate transition to sleeping downstairs,” the owner explained to us.

Currently, the pupper is recovering from his second stroke and is having a hard time climbing the stairs

“He is very much an old man now, especially after his second stroke, so spends most of his time snoozing in the day and cuddling up with his people as much as possible,” Spike’s owner told us. “He’s a very cheeky chappy too and thinks everything we have is for sharing—personal space, beds, food and any drink that foolishly gets left on the floor from tea to wine—we have to keep a very close eye on him!”

Turns out, after experiencing his second stroke, Spike wasn’t able to walk, so the family would have to carry him around the house. Luckily, the boy was determined to get better and so he did. And now, despite being able to walk again, he’s still not strong enough to climb the stairs so he can’t sleep where he usually does—in his parents’ bedroom.

Since Spike is no longer able to sleep in his humans’ bedroom, the family decided to alternate sleeping downstairs on the couch with him each night

In order to prevent injuries and to make their boy Spikie happy, the family set up their stair gate and decided to alternate sleeping on the couch with him each night to make sure he doesn’t try to jump the gate.

“We know when he has got tired of watching TV when he gets up and goes to the other room to see if his bed has been put down for him! He takes himself off to bed when he’s had enough and gets comfy cosy,” the owner of the doggy told us. “He always makes a big fuss when whoever is sleeping downstairs gets in and grumbles at having to share the space, but once you’re in he snuggles up and especially loves to cuddle in the morning with his head on the pillow.”

They’ve also set up their stair gate in order to prevent injuries

The bond between Spike and the dad seems to be the most special of all. “They’re absolutely inseparable. My dad calls him ‘old bean’ and they’re always chatting away,” the owner told The Dodo. “My dad will also bring Spike his water and food to the sofa and feed him by hand to make sure he gets his medicines and keeps his strength up.”

There he receiνed the name of Kong, and became the ѕhelter pᴜppy #387.

Bᴜt the name waѕ the laѕt thing that mattered to Cᴜrtiѕ Harѕell, who fell in loνe with the white dog with a charming ѕmile and beaᴜtifᴜl eyeѕ.

“I looked at hiѕ profile pictᴜre and immediately fell in loνe with him from that pictᴜre and the deѕcription that they had giνen on the page,”  Cᴜrtiѕ ѕayѕ after adopting him.

For Cᴜrtiѕ it waѕ loνe at firѕt ѕight.

“Hiѕ adoptiνe mother deѕcribed hiѕ temperament and perѕonality and I told him aboᴜt my life and it waѕ perfect for eνeryone . “

Cᴜrtiѕ workѕ in Compᴜter Intelligence for a company headqᴜartered in Little Elm, Texaѕ, and he waѕ worried that hiѕ hyperactiνe lifeѕtyle waѕn’t right for haνing a dog , bᴜt ѕomething told him it woᴜld all work oᴜt thiѕ time.

And that’ѕ how he applied to adopt thiѕ adorable dog.

“I aѕked if there were any daily ᴜpdateѕ on the adoption proceѕѕ and I felt like he waѕ going to be mine from the ѕtart and theѕe people woᴜld help bring ᴜѕ together,” addѕ Cᴜrtiѕ.

After ѕeνeral interνiewѕ and a home νiѕit, Cᴜrtiѕ’ѕ application waѕ approνed and the day they met arriνed.

To ѕtart a new ѕtage, Cᴜrtiѕ decided to change the name of Kong/#387 to ZIB , in honor of the famoᴜѕ Soνiet dog that traνeled into ѕpace.

“The original waѕ jᴜѕt a ѕtray dog ​​rᴜnning aroᴜnd the baѕe that waѕ ѕent into ѕpace on a ѕᴜcceѕѕfᴜl flight, ” Cᴜrtiѕ explained.

I thoᴜght ZIB waѕ perfect for me becaᴜѕe he waѕ a loѕt dog ᴜntil ѕomeone picked him ᴜp and helped him get better. Now with him we will be in the ѕtarѕ together!”

When Cᴜrtiѕ arriνed at the hoᴜѕe where ZIB waѕ being ѕheltered, a friend captᴜred the beaᴜtifᴜl moment when the dog ѕtopped being loѕt and foᴜnd hiѕ deѕtiny.

The pᴜppy’ѕ happineѕѕ and tranqᴜility can be ѕeen on hiѕ face.

“They gaνe me hiѕ leaѕh… I took him to the front and gaνe him hiѕ new name and aѕked if he wanted to go home with me,”  recallѕ Cᴜrtiѕ. “ ‘ Zib, I’m going to call yoᴜ ZIB. Yoᴜ like? Woᴜld yoᴜ like to come home with me, ZIB?’ She ѕat in front of me, looked me in the eyeѕ and hᴜgged me and ѕᴜpported hiѕ head. He waѕ adorable; I will neνer forget that moment.”

ZIB coᴜldn’t be happier than today in hiѕ new hoᴜѕe and with hiѕ new dad. The pᴜppy that ѕhe ѕᴜffered from abandonment and lazineѕѕ, iѕ now loνed and cared for aѕ he needed. The loνe and affection that he receiνeѕ left behind the monthѕ of ѕᴜffering and abandonment.

Althoᴜgh Cᴜrtiѕ waѕ afraid of not being with the pᴜppy aѕ mᴜch aѕ neceѕѕary, today ZIB’ѕ life iѕ a thoᴜѕand timeѕ better.

“ I can’t begin to deѕcribe how happy and accompliѕhed I feel,”  ѕayѕ Cᴜrtiѕ.

Knowing that thiѕ poor little dog waѕ rejected and that all he wanted waѕ loνe and now I can giνe it to him eνery day, it’ѕ amazing. I ѕincerely feel that I ѕaνed him and that there iѕ nothing I can’t do for him. Oᴜr life iѕ bᴜilt together with the other and today I coᴜld not think of it in any other way ”.

There are so many stray dogs out in the world, fending for themselves without any loving humans to go home to, so it’s always heartwarming to see people go out of their way to show these animals a little kindness. Because stray dogs don’t have any shelter, it’s especially nice to see people protecting them from inclement weather, whether it’s severe heat or cold or just a rainy day.

Recently, one police officer went viral after shielding two stray dogs with his umbrella during a downpour, helping to keep the poor pups dry.

It was raining heavily, and the streets of Kolkata in India were flooded as a result. And the stray dogs in the area have been searching for dry and safe places to stay. So when Constable Tarun Kumar Mandal went out to direct traffic with his umbrella. Two wet stray dogs spotted him standing in the middle of the street and flocked to him. The compassionate cop offered the two dogs shelter under his large umbrella and continued directing traffic.

A passerby snapped a photo of the small act of kindness and shared it on social media, touching people from around the world. And the look on the dogs’ faces says it all. The heartwarming scene has now gone viral. According to Indian Express, a pic was taken by photographer Sayan Chakraborty and shared by the Kolkata Police’s official Fᴀᴄᴇʙᴏᴏᴋ page and has been shared over 10,000 times.

According to Indian Express, with an estimated 35 to 40 million stray dogs in India — one of the highest populations in the world — there’s a long way to go to help these animals.

Wiley, the Dalmatian, wears his heart on his sleeve – well more like his nose. The now one-year-old spotted dog rose to internet fame for his unique heart-shaped marking placed squarely on his face and his over 120k Instagram followers can’t get enough. His human mom, Lexi Smith, 26, describes Wiley as, “54 pounds of goofy, clumsy, sassy, hungry, cuddly, curious, wild, crazy, silly, happy love,” and as lovely as he is in photos she told Bored Panda, “No amount of pictures on could ever fully capture all that he is and all that he means to me, he’s my best friend.”

Wiley found his way to Smith, who lives in Colorado, from Oklahoma on Saint Patrick’s day of last year and while this cute puppy’s unique markings make him stand out, she says that’s not the reason she chose him.

“He came from a litter of 11, and 8 of them were boys, so I had a tough choice in choosing him. The heart was there, but not fully formed to the point where I believed it would stay since dalmatian spots change so much as they grow. I chose him because the breeder told me that all he did was sleep, snuggle, and eat, so we already had a lot in common.”

Well, the sleepy little pup she first met is no more, and the 26-year-old said, “Wiley has more personality bundled up into his little body than any adorable dog I have ever met.”

Luckily for Wiley, the pair lives in an area where the beautiful dog can release some of that energy.

Smith said hiking is one of his favorite activities, “We are so lucky to live in Colorado and have the biggest most beautiful places to play in and explore. He loves hiking or going to one of the many massive dog parks here.”

“He also enjoys car rides and sits where he can look out the front window like a true copilot. But when he gets sleepy, he really, really LOOOOVES to snuggle.”

When this adorably cute do dog isn’t snuggling, his mom said he could also be quite stubborn (a common trait among Dalmatian dogs).

“Wiley’s truest dalmatian traits are constantly making me laugh. Usually, it’s a giggle paired with shaking my head, laughing off total frustration from his stubbornness, but that’s part of owning the breed. If you can’t laugh it off and be creative in finding a solution and training the naughty traits out of them, life with a dalmatian would be such a challenge.”

For Smith, she wouldn’t trade Wiley’s occasional stubbornness for the world, “I have been really lucky with Wiley, though. He has the best heart, and I’m not talking about the one on his nose. He loves everyone he meets and is always so excited to make new friends. He has been relatively easy to train and has made the best little adventure partner I could ask for. He requires so much attention, and he’s basically attached to my hip, but that’s what I love about him.”

The Colorado native isn’t the only one who appreciates how special Wiley is. Thanks to his growing Instagram, the Dalmatian gets noticed on the street.

“Some people recognize him as “that dog from the internet,” a lot of people notice the heart-shaped dog nose, but mostly it’s just people shocking to see a dalmatian. “I haven’t seen a dalmatian in so long,” or “I’ve never seen a dalmatian in person,” are the most repeated comments I hear when I am out and about with Wiley.”

Smith’s decision to share Wiley with the internet began with her love of photography. “Photography has always been something that I have toyed and experimented with, and suddenly I had an adorable puppy who made the perfect model. I have a personal account, but creating a separate one dedicated specifically to Wiley seemed like a great way to kind of store all my photos of him and keep a running timeline of his life.”

“It truly started as something meant for just me and maybe some of my friends to see his growth and keep the memories of every stage and event with Wiley. When the account first started growing, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, what if he hits 5,000 followers!’ I never in a million years could have imagined it would be what it is now. And it’s STILL GROWING. I am constantly amazed, shocked, but mostly so grateful. It has been a fun little adventure, that’s for sure.”
